Longshore Harbor Workers 905B ClaimsLongshoremen and Harbor Workers are workers who are employed on the docks loading and unloading vessels, or on certain special-purpose platforms or barges, perform ship repair or other harbor work. Longshoreman and Harbor workers are entitled to the protections of the Longshore and Harbor Worker’s Compensation Act. (LSHWCA) The LSHWCA is designed to provide the injured worker a near automatic, but limited monetary benefit.

One of the advantages of the Longshore and Harbor Worker’s Compensation Act is that if your injury was due to the negligence of a vessel, in addition to worker’s compensation, you can sue the vessel for the full amount of your injuries. This is known as an LSHW 905B claim. Admiralty lawyer Edward Petkevis started his career in 1986, representing insurance carriers defending against LSHW 905B claims, first in New Orleans regarding offshore drilling issues in the Gulf, then later in claims arising in the Great Lakes and Mississippi River. In 1995, with the founding of the Deepwater Law offices of Edward R. Petkevis, the focus of the practice shifted from corporations and insurance companies to representing longshoremen and harbor workers who suffered personal injury due to a vessel’s negligence.

For all such claims we work on a contingency fee basis which means that if we don’t win, you don’t pay. Call today for a free no obligation consultation.
